A beautiful 1863 French edition of Les Jeunes Personnes devenues célèbres par leur piété filiale, leur courage, leurs talents, etc. by M. A. Antoine, published in Rouen by Mégard et Cie. Illustrated with engraved plates throughout.
The cartonnage binding is especially lovely in ivory, green and gilt with an intricate repeating pattern and a large hand colored illustration to the front depicting a dramatic water rescue.
A wonderful detail is the original handwritten presentation inscription tipped onto the front endpaper, dated 18 August 1863, giving the book an additional piece of its 19th century history and provenance.
Good antique condition with a strong spine and only light wear to the binding and edges. Scattered foxing and age toning to the interior as expected for its age.
