A beautiful 1864 French edition of Vies choisies des Pères des Déserts d’Orient by Michel Ange Marin, published in Tours by Alfred Mame et Fils. The book recounts the lives of the early Christian Desert Fathers of Egypt, Arabia, Palestine and the surrounding regions and is illustrated with engraved plates.
An especially striking French cartonnage binding in turquoise green, ivory and gilt with elaborate floral decoration and a hand colored religious vignette to the front cover.
Good antique condition with a strong, attractive spine. Light age related wear throughout with a little more wear along the bottom edge and corners. Interior shows minor scattered foxing consistent with age.
