An exceptional pair of 19th century Italian obelisks crafted from richly toned amethyst stone set against luminous white marble, each standing 16 inches tall with a 4 inch square base. The contrast between the deep violet mineral and the crisp marble creates a dramatic, architectural presence that feels both classical and bold.
Obelisks have long symbolized permanence and refinement, and pairs like this were often used in European interiors to anchor mantels, libraries, and grand case pieces. The amethyst displays beautiful natural variation in tone and crystalline movement, while the marble bases provide balance and substantial weight. Sculptural and beautifully proportioned, they make a powerful statement whether styled symmetrically or layered among silver, books, and framed art.
One of the marble bases has had a repair, which has been professionally stabilized and presents beautifully overall. The pair remains strong, substantial, and highly decorative, with natural variations in the stone consistent with age and material.
A striking and increasingly difficult to source pair at this scale.
