A mid 19th century French edition of Tales of an Old Man: Stories and Novellas for Young People by Julie Delafaye Bréhier, published in Paris by P. C. Lehuby. Illustrated with engraved plates throughout.
Stunning white French cartonnage with elaborate raised gilt floral decoration and a colorful illustrated scene inset into the front cover.
Very good antique condition with very little wear and a strong, well preserved spine. Some age related foxing to the interior pages.
Especially charming is the original handwritten school prize presentation leaf mounted inside the front cover, dated 1856, giving the book a wonderful piece of its early provenance.
