Beautiful early French cartonnage with a bright turquoise cover and elaborate gilt decoration depicting figures within an architectural garden scene. Published in Lille in 1849, making this a particularly early example. Inside is a wonderful handwritten presentation inscription dated December 25, 1850, adding a personal piece of the book’s original history. Spine is in very good condition with only light age appropriate wear.
