A striking 19th century French cartonnage book, La France au XIIe Siècle by Amand Biechy. This example is a little simpler in design, but the incredible saturated purple binding makes it especially beautiful. The cover is decorated with black and gilt ornament over a finely textured ground.
A history of France during the 12th century, with an engraved frontispiece depicting a medieval scene. A wonderful example for anyone who loves the more jewel toned cartonnage bindings.
In pretty good antique condition overall with age appropriate wear, most noticeably along the spine and edges.
