A beautiful 19th century French cartonnage book, Vie de Duquesne, translating to The Life of Duquesne. Published in Rouen by Mégard et Cie in 1869.
The book tells the life of Abraham Duquesne, the celebrated 17th century French naval commander, and includes engraved illustrations depicting scenes from his life. The decorative binding is especially striking with its white, blue and gilt lattice design and vivid central illustration of a mounted military figure.
Good antique condition overall with age appropriate wear. The decorative covers retain strong color and gilt detail with rubbing and wear around the corners and edges. The spine shows more noticeable wear, including rubbing, discoloration and losses at the head and foot, but remains attached. Interior pages show scattered foxing and toning consistent with age.
