A beautiful 19th century French cartonnage book, Lectures Récréatives by Régis Hellmès. The soft blush pink binding is richly decorated in gilt, with a hand colored landscape inset into the front cover featuring a dramatic castle perched high above a village and river.
Inside is an engraved frontispiece illustrating one of the stories in the collection. A particularly lovely example for the castle scene alone.
In good antique condition overall with age appropriate wear, including more noticeable wear to the spine, especially toward the bottom edge.
