A beautiful 19th century French cartonnage book, Galerie des Artistes Célèbres by Madame C. Fallet, published in Rouen in 1863. The brilliant blue binding is richly decorated in gilt, with a large hand colored scene inset into the front cover.
The book explores the lives of celebrated painters, sculptors, and architects and includes several engraved illustrations inside, including a wonderful engraving of Cimabue and Giotto. A particularly fun subject for an antique book devoted entirely to the history of artists.
In pretty good antique condition overall with a well preserved spine and some wear at the top and bottom edges of the spine.
