A beautiful 19th century French cartonnage book titled Lina. The binding has a pale blue and white ground with intricate green and gilt decoration and a charming hand colored pastoral scene inset into the front cover depicting a thatched cottage beside the water.
Interestingly, the surviving preliminary pages provide only the title Lina and the notation “4e série,” with no publisher or publication date visible. It appears possible that a title or publication page is missing, so I would date this example broadly to the mid 19th century rather than assign it an exact year.
In pretty good antique condition overall with some age appropriate wear to the spine.
