Beautiful late 18th century portrait miniature here, a full 2 inch painted oval in what appears to be its original gilt mount. Wonderful delicate painting, powdered hair, blue coat, lovely luminous background. The reverse shows old hand set retaining points and early construction, which I really like seeing. There is even a resemblance to known Lafayette portraits, though I’m offering it conservatively as a gentleman’s portrait. These little miniatures have such presence in a cabinet or layered among other antiques, and they are getting harder to find
