A beautiful 19th century French cartonnage book, Histoire du Vicomte de Turenne, translating to History of the Viscount de Turenne, by Abbé Raguenet. Published by F. F. Ardant Frères in Limoges and Paris, c. 1860s.
This historical volume tells the story of Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne, Vicomte de Turenne, the celebrated 17th century French military commander. It includes engraved illustrations, including a handsome portrait of Turenne.
The binding is especially striking in white and gold, with elaborate gilt decoration covering both boards and a hand colored historical scene inset into the front cover.
Good antique condition overall with age appropriate wear. The decorative covers remain remarkably bright with strong gilt detail. The spine is in good overall condition with light wear, primarily at the top and bottom edges. Interior pages show scattered foxing and toning consistent with age.
