A beautiful 19th century French cartonnage edition of Laurent and Jérôme, or The Two Young Poets by Étienne Gervais, published in Tours by Alfred Mame et Fils in 1869.
The richly decorated binding is especially striking in vibrant blue, white and gold, with ornate gilt detailing and a charming inset illustration of two young figures in a wooded landscape. The interior includes an engraved frontispiece.
Good antique condition overall. The covers retain strong color and beautiful gilt decoration. There is more noticeable age related wear to the spine than on many of the other examples in the collection, including wear and losses at the upper and lower spine edges. Light wear to the corners and edges and scattered foxing to the interior pages, all consistent with age.
