A beautiful 1879 French cartonnage book, Le Repos du Dimanche, translating to Sunday Rest, by Mlle Fiévée. Published in Rouen by Mégard et Cie.
The book features an especially lovely white, blue and gold decorated binding, with intricate geometric ornament and a charming hand colored scene on the front depicting a father and daughter overlooking the countryside beneath a hot air balloon. Illustrated throughout with engraved plates.
Good antique condition overall with age appropriate wear. The covers retain beautiful color and gilt detail. The spine presents well overall, with some wear and a small area of separation at the lower portion of the spine. Interior pages show scattered foxing and toning consistent with its 147 years of age.
